I went into the shop needing some assistance to have a necklace and couple of watch straps fixed. The lady who saw me was extremely nice and helpful. She advised although she could help me with the necklace, there was an alternative shop better suited to deal with all the items of mine that required fixing. She didn't have to do that and could have taken the custom for herself. However, she simply just wanted to help me which I truly appreciate, thank you :)

Such a wonderful shop with so many unique and quirky pieces and a lovely attentive shopkeeper. I can't wait for an excuse to go back.

Cannetille was a French jewellery technique that emerged in the Regency period. It involves the use of curled, twisted, spiralled, scrolled, beehived or coiled gold wire. Cannetille is three dimensional and thus differs from its close relative filigree which is flat. Some say the style was inspired by the Portuguese, others India. The most likely explanation is a little more complex. Firstly, cannetille was also used to describe a French embroidery technique which had a similar appearance and was created using gold thread (check the third image). Secondly, there was a short supply and scarcity of gold off the back of the Napoleonic wars. The cannetille technique allowed jewellers to create pieces that looked large without using huge amounts of gold. The combination of these factors most likely resulted in French jewellers and then English jewellers rapidly adopting the technique. It also allowed them to show off some pretty impressive skills. These two regency topaz pieces pull off almost every cannetille technique you could imagine. See how many you can identify on these two stunning pendants we have in store now.

This beautiful Edwardian platinum pendant with diamond bow has a central ruby that might be called a pink sapphire by some. Bows were first used in 17th century French jewellery and signified love when worn near the heart or playfulness when worn on a ribbon around the neck. The motif completely disappeared during the French Revolution but came bursting back to life in the Edwardian era. The advances in jewellery-making techniques meant that the Edwardian bows were more fluid, delicate and realistic.
