Being recommend by an old colleague to go and see Lennon Chartered Accountants for my taxes, I went there with a good feeling and had a great first appointment costing me $190.
After having an hour long conversation about different expenses and taxes involving my job with my newly appointed accountant we figured out that I would be eligible for roughly $800. Obviously this number was an estimate and It could always change, but it would be roughly around that amount, I was told.
When I called after two weeks to ask why I got $113.60 back from ATO I was told it might have been part of the payment and the rest would follow. After not hearing from my accountant again for a week I called and was told they would get back to me. Since they didn’t get back to me for another few days I decided to visit and see what was going on.
My accountant explained to me that I was taxed as a foreign citizen, not an Australian one and instead of the estimated $800 I was only getting back the $113.60 (Actually losing money on the whole thing). My accountant was aware of my complete working and living situation but still never told me this was a possibility, when I confronted her with it she didn’t have an answer. After I told her she should fight it and get me the right amount of taxes back she told me she would talk to her boss and get back to me.. That never happend.
Overall I’m very disappointed in the way of communication, service and knowledge of my particular accountant and this company and I now wish I had never done my taxes in the first place.
