We went in to the shop and were told by Scott that by chance a job had been cancelled and if we booked now we could get it done in a week. We were originally quoted a price that included the underlay, but the price went up when we were told we had to pay for the underlay separately, then they upsold us a better underlay so the price went up again. We paid in full in advance as it was a week before they were coming out to lay the carpet and you had to pay in full before the job was done. Then the price went up again after they came out and measured up. Although we didn't agree with Scotts calculations and told him so, he insisted that more money needed to be added on. There was not much we could do because they had our money and he had told us "you will never get the money back out of this company" so it was either agree or be left trying to get our money back, which wasn't going to be easy. Scott simply crossed out the original quote which had been fully paid for and added a few hundred more which we then had to pay for on top. Then he told us that this new amount did not include taking the carpet away and we needed to pay the installers a $100 cash to take it away. When I said that the price had always included the disposal of the old carpet, which we had been told a number of times, his demeanour quickly changed as if he were pretty much standing over me and he said... "you wouldn't want the old carpet left on your lawn would you? I suppose you could hire a skip and have it taken away like that...its up to you." So we agreed to pay the installers a hundred bucks cash and we were called the day before the job to be reminded that we needed to do this. So when the installers arrived we had to pay them $100 cash up front just so that they would do the job we had already paid for. Just more money out of our pocket into theirs for no reason except that they could get away with it. Basically we felt like we had been ripped off. There was a another section of carpeting to be done and we took the rest of our business elsewhere, they also came within a week, they did a better job cheaper, with a better quality carpet and underlay and no cash bonuses for the carpet layers!
