We originally decided upon Pergolas of Distinction for a project involving a carport, pergola, deck and café-style blinds, based on their quote being significantly more competitive than a number of other quotes obtained for the same work. The time for planning and approval was brief and without issue, and construction of the two structures and deck were completed in between 2~3 weeks - an impressive effort given the overall amount of work, and weather interruptions.
The overall build quality of the pergola, carport and deck are very high - a testament to the care for workmanship by installer Michael and his team.
Blinds were booked in with specific instructions regarding height and placement, and it seemed as though my intentions were understood by their "engineer" Daniel. The blinds were installed a few weeks later, with incorrect height and placement on one blind. It took 2 weeks, including 2 un-replied SMS, 3 calls, 1 failed appointment, and an escalation through director Hamish, before Daniel showed his face to understand why I was not happy with the job. I called Daniel two days later, and he assured me that the parts for rectification were ordered on the date of his visit, stating the issue should be resolved in just over a week. During this visit, Daniel was nice enough to betray the privacy of the blinds subcontractor, and alert me to the reason for the miscommunication were due to the drunken antics of said subcontractor. God only knows what other gossip is shared between employees and customers of this group...
3 weeks passed between this date and my next attempt to engage Daniel (no efforts were made to alert me to why I was still waiting - I had to initiate conversation). Although there were 2 working days inside this timeframe that were impacted by the Adelaide lockdown, I still see this communication breakdown as highly unhelpful for myself.
I didn't hear from Daniel after my first voicemail left, or even my second. I once again decided to escalate the matter through Hamish, who gave a stock standard apology. He also confirmed the drunken antics that led to the original subcontractor being vacant to complete the job... Bit of a pattern emerging with staff revealing otherwise confidential information. Hamish reassured me that the blinds team would be out again in a week's time to complete the work.
Wouldn't you know it.... Daniel didn't order the part for the second installer visit!! By the time the contractors come out a third time, it will be almost 8 weeks from their first visit until the date I'm now hoping everything will be wrapped up. This doesn't even include the lead time from Daniel's initial measure until the date of final rectification. The best I could get out of Hamish was an apology, without any real appreciation that I have had to reschedule other external contractors for work that can only be done once the blinds are fully installed.
When I raised the likelihood of writing this review, Hamish failed to understand the concern I had in outlining that at least two of the existing reviews belong to employees I have dealt with along the way. I see it as blatantly fraudulent behaviour, and out outright conflict of interest. The owner of the business has even responded to one of these reviews!! I received Hamish's acceptance that my call was being recorded, so if these reviews are removed, any amount of intentional misrepresentation is confirmed.
If you want a project done by this group, I can only speak positively about 90% of their work. Just PRAY that nothing goes wrong, PRAY that there are no warranty issues. Daniel will find a way to not answer your call, miss an appointment without communication, forget to order something, send installers with the wrong parts. And if you're really lucky, he'll fill you in on some of the office goss!
