About Deaf Education Network

Deaf Education Network was established in 1983 as the Adult Education Centre for Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Persons Inc (AEC) by the Concerned Deaf Group. Its purpose was to provide improved access for Deaf and hearing impaired adults in post-secondary non-vocational education. Since then, the organisation’s scope has diversified to include vocational and literacy training, research, teacher training and curriculum resource development. Auslan language programs have also been added to help enable hearing people to work within and provide support to the Deaf community. In 1996, AEC was renamed Deaf Education Network (DEN). DEN strives to maintain best-practice through networking and joint projects with other major adult education organisations to meet the adult learning needs of Deaf Australians. In 2007, DEN became the education division of The Deaf Society of New South Wales. The Deaf Society of New South Wales is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) which delivers nationally accredited and community education in NSW.
