About Chess For Kids
Chess For Kids is Victoria's most preferred chess provider, with vast experience in chess education and training for children.
Phil Hooton, the founder of "Chess for Schools", originally worked in the I.T industry however sought a more fulfilling career. In 2002 he turned his passion for chess and a love for teaching children into a new full-time career. Since then he has taught thousands of children how to play chess, elevating a number to compete in the Victorian State Championships. He still has a great love for the game and a passion for teaching children its wonder.
Chess For Schools is now expanding across Melbourne and the Greater Geelong Area. We would love your school & students to gain the benefits of our fantastic program.

5 May 2021Here at Chess For Kids, we offer a range of coaching services for chess, including:
- Primary School Coaching
Classes are run on a weekly basis over the course of a term. They can run before school, at lunchtime, after school, or during school hours as a part of the curriculum.
- Private Coaching
One-on-one coaching is a great way to fast track the learning process. Coaches will identify the student's style of play, strengths and weaknesses and tailor the lesson accordingly.
We can come to you! We can come to your home (depending on location) or school.
- Virtual Lessons
In light of COVID 19, we are currently running virtual lessons online with 'one-on-one' gameplay analysis with your own private coach.
