About No 1 Pump Station

CY O’Connor’s audacious plan to pump water from Perth to the Goldfields begins here. No 1 is the first of eight steam pump stations that took water from the Darling Scarp to the arid interior. They operated from the turn of the twentieth century until 1970 when their replacement with electric stations was complete. A visit to No 1 will introduce you to this fascinating engineering story. It is also the starting point of a drive along the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail. This property is operated by the National Trust of Western Australia.
