This unassuming, but attractive little Yatala stone building was originally the mortuary for the Lunatic Asylum—the "Dead House", built in 1882, is all that remains.
This is a mortuary that has been used in the 1800s by the hospital to place dead bodies. That’s why it’s called the dead house. This is the story I read on the board nearby the dead house. It’s not open to get inside. However, you can look around it. The house doesn’t look anything like a dead house from outside. There are nice flowers grown around it too.
