This builder fails on many levels, innovation however isn’t one of them, they’ve managed to develop architectural framework for squeezing liveable spaces onto tiny little blocks. But is it really worth it?
The finishing touches, particularly on the external of their homes such as paint and plaster is of extremely poor quality. Discussions I have had with their finishing trades (who were not qualified) indicated that the rates they pay contractors is on the lower end of the scale within the industry which attracts trades on the same end of that scale.
One aspect of this builders execution is of particular concern, despite ‘sustainable’ being in the name they have little to no regard for the environment. I have witnessed on multiple job sites excessive amounts of rubbish strewn around the site with no fencing or even a bin to contain it, during windy days and nights the rubbish blows from the site into neighbouring blocks and up to several streets away forcing the community to deal with it.
The lack of good quality finishing trades and fact there is constantly rubbish exiting their sites indicates they are a low budget builder working with tight margins having to save pennies wherever possible. When they built next to my house (they built 2 houses on a 340m2 block which is both impressive and a bit baffling) the trades splattered mortar, plaster and paint over the fencing and refused to plaster a very small area adjoining my block to match the rest of the construction (instead just painting magnesium board).
Our local council had warned them about containing rubbish before I rang to complain, not before I rang the company itself though who basically fobbed it off as “not out of the ordinary” which isn’t the ideal approach to take when neighbours to their construction site have taken the time to call in and let them know it’s a problem.
Personally, I would avoid these guys. There are plenty of other similar style builders worth considering who understand that their profits shouldn’t come at the expense of neighbours and the environment.
It's so great dealing with a family based building company. The Thompsons should be proud of their WA off shoot. Everyone in the Perth office is very responsive and work hard to ensure that their Clients' needs are met.
I'm looking forward to building with them for a project in Highgate.
