About Gulgong Holtermann Museum
The UNESCO listed, Holtermann Collection photographs relating to the 1870's Gulgong gold rush are housed in two beautifully restored Heritage Listed buildings. These photographs were taken in 1872, using the wet plate collodion system. They give an excellent insight into life on the gold fields. The well curated exhibition covers the works of Merlin, Bayliss and Holtermann which are exhibited on touch screens, in digitsed form and on enlarged mounded photographs throughout the facility. Touchscreen activities encourage visitors to engage in the photographic history and the interactive street trail takes the photographs into the streets of Gulgong. The State Library of NSW have been extremely generous with the donation of exhibit material.
