A 4WD is required, as although the first section of road is manageable in a standard car it becomes pretty rough the further in you go. Even in a 4WD it is still a long, slow drive in - the canyons are quite amazing though and worth seeing. However, our main reason for going in was to walk the trail up the ridge from the car park up to Thomas Carter lookout and unfortunately we drove all the way in only to discover the trail had been closed.
