Late afternoon, informed that I had the highest offer in, negotiated a change with my buyers to shift the settlement date as it was too short for the seller and in the early evening I was in the final negotiations with them via the agent...... then it went quiet. Next day I received an email from Matt informing me that they had taken a higher offer. Not even the courtesy of a telephone call informing me, or the chance to change my offer!
Its unfortunate that Matt's recollection of events and mine differ markedly. On the day that I put in the offer Matt informed me that he had one other, and was anticipating one later that day? I sent in the pre-offer document that was returned for me to sign. Unfortunately there were errors in it that I telephoned about and was informed that he would amend and return as soon as possible. Never saw it again.
When he telephoned me late afternoon he indicated that the sellers were concerned about the short settlement date, four weeks and inquired if i could do something about it, as discussed earlier in the day. Through my selling agent, I did so and contacted Matt to let him know.
Early evening Matt telephoned, informed me that there were 2 offers in, mine the highest and the sellers wanted to counter and the other party was not interested in participating. No mention of 8 offers!!!
He informed me that the sellers had countered back, my offer was $492,500, at $500,000 and after some discussion I countered back at $495,000. His words were, I will get back! Nothing until the email next day.
Believe who you may, but his and my recollection are markedly different!
