About Aqua Park Pty Ltd
AQPK's sole purpose is to establish a safe atmosphere of fun and excitement for the entire family. We cater for ages from 6 years and over. Our friendly staff and fully qualified Lifeguards will ensure you experience the ultimate in Aqua Park adventure whilst providing the safest environment for you to enjoy.
Upon purchasing your ticket, you will be provided with a headband and a life-jacket. All patrons will undergo a 10 minute Safety Induction before entering the park.

Please note that Aqua Park is a fun and physically challenging activity and not suitable for participants who have recently undergone surgery, carrying injuries or are pregnant.

My family is visiting Darwin for a holiday. I have visited the Darwin Lagoon at the Waterfront. My family consisted of my Mum and me who are Caucasian. My Mum is married to Fijian so my little sister has beautiful tanned brown skin and she was on holiday with us. My little sister (12yrs) was very excited to use your aquapark.
We lined up, signed our waiver and paid. Told by the kiosk lady to go over and we will get lifejackets in a few minutes. The lifeguard/worker (who I've been told is Maddie) looked at my little sister and said "where is your wristband." (With a strange negative tone). I told her that I the lady at the kiosk said to come over and hadn't given us a wristband. She told my sister to hurry up. (Again with an abrupt, almost rude tone).
Maddie turned to me requesting I go and get her wristband, which I did. I stayed for the induction. Her toned resumed to normal as she told everyone the instructions. Except when she said "no wrestling" when she turned and looked directly at the two black Americans, the only other culturally diverse people in the group. She had changed her tone to that same negative, condescending tone. At first I thought maybe it's the end of the day and she was exhausted. However, I observed her talking to others (other Caucasians) with a polite tone completely different to the one she had used with my little sister and those two men.
Later, feeling very upset and disappointed. I heard it again. Two beautiful Aboriginal small children (couldn't be older than 10yrs of age), approached Maddie and asked "how go on the play equipment?" (In reference to your aquapark). Maddie turned and snapped at the child "you need money bud" (again in that negative and condescending tone).
I wouldn't usually write emails with such a negative tone but I walked away from this experience appalled and really disappointed. I told the on-site manager (approx. 5:30pm) who asked me what had been said and didn't provide me with any reassurance that this wouldn't happen again.
It is 2022, Darwin is such a multicultural place. We should all be coming together to ensure inclusion and a sense of belonging for all people.
