We had a dream of building a small, energy efficient and beautiful home that would be our forever home. We met with Philip and were impressed with his communication skills and understanding of our vision. Philip delivered us with an amazing design, beyond our imaginings. Throughout the design development and building process Philip and his team maintained exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to a high quality product. We are the proud owners of an exceptional piece of architecture that has added so much quality and comfort to our lives.
We engaged Philip to design a new bathroom. Through his and Louise’s innovative design not only did we end up with a magnificent new bathroom we also have a new living room, outdoor entertaining area, courtyard and carport. Terrific to work with and highly recommended.

Just looking to fit out a house, and found some great furniture and mattresses. All are in stock and at fantastic prices!
We were ready to down size & we needed professional help to build on our very small, narrow block & Philip Stejskal helped us tremendously with what we were after. He & his team were very professional & creative in designing our new home. He always listened to our needs & also offered invaluable detail to the project. We couldn’t be happier with the end result & we would highly recommend Philip to anyone looking to build a different home.
In March 2016 we approached Philip Stejskal Architecture about our 120 year old Heritage Listed commercial/residential building located in Fremantle, WA. The building at 218 South Terrace had previously been a deli/corner shop and we wanted to completely renovate it and add a second storey including courtyard on the first floor.
Our brief to Philip and the team was we wanted:
* Large open spaces.
* Large amounts of natural light.
* A connection to the street and outside world.
*Modern and minimalist.
* Flexibility to use the building as either a residence or office, or combination of both.
The design and plans created by Philip Stejskal Architecture exceeded our expectations. Philip successful worked with the City of Fremantle and our building plans were approved in November 2016. A local architectural firm we had previously dealt with believed it would be impossible to get the second storey renovation approved on the heritage building.
In January 2017, the building/renovation started. Philip and the team worked intensively with Capozzi Building (the builders) to refine and customise the final result. Together they created something unique for us to live in and enjoy.
I would highly recommend Philip Stejskal Architecture.
Yoga with Jai Ram helped me prepare for birth and motherhood in ways that I didn’t expect. Her practice has helped me better understand myself as a woman and to reflect on my truth; particularly at a time when your identity as a woman is expanding and testing you.
I will take her teachings with me for life to help guide me and ground me.
We have all but completed our tri-level family home in Scarborough. We have collaborated with Phil and his team since we first engaged him in October 2014, while completing a 2 year trip with our family around Australia. We did a lot of research and investigation into Australian Architecture whilst travelling and returned home with quite specific ideas we wanted incorporated into our home. We had lived at the address previously for 13 years, starting our family and wanted to make the most of the site. The original house was falling down and this presented an opportunity to build a home to see our family into the next phase, namely adolescents and young adulthood of our children and the independence parents need from that experience.
Philip took all our ideas, needs, and requests and incorporated all that into a collaborative interpretation to deliver an amazing family home that will see us well into the future.
We are overjoyed with our home and can’t wait every day to come back together into it and live comfortably, in a relaxed open house, filled with light and breeze, seperate but connected, functional, practical, purpose built for all our families needs. Phil and Yang Yang worked professionally and collaboratively with our builder to produce the home we have been dreaming of for years.
Building this home has been a great challenge for all involved, but the outcome is beyond expectation and well worth the effort.
We contacted Phil to design the internal of our retail showroom and workshop, with very limited space and quite specific needs, it was quite a challenge. The ideas that were presented were fresh, innovative and exciting.
Phil was involved throughout the building process and was very particular with even the small details, which are all the things that bring the final result to such a beautiful standard. Our space is comfortable and energizing to work in, and we still receive comments regularly from clients on the clever contrast of the polished showroom against the rawness of the workshop. Our space is still as relevant and inspiring today as it was when it was newly completed, and we now look forward to the next project we can work on together, which is on the not too distant horizon!
Phil and his team designed (conceptual through detail), tendered and managed construction on our project in Freo (South Terrace Alterations and Additions). He and his team nailed the brief, delivered the best value builder through a rigorous tender process, managed the construction to our budget and delivered a house that exceeded our expectations. Along with our heartfelt thanks the project was recognised in the short list for the 2016 House Awards (Alterations and Additions over 200 sqm.).
As well as the above...Our family derive a feeling of well being from the house on a day to day basis...we absolutely love the myriad of design features, aesthetics, attention to detail, and we couldn't wish for a better home for our family.
We went to Philip Stejskal Architecture when looking for an architect to design and oversee the building of our house project in South Fremantle. The house was an old workers cottage on a narrow corner block, and we wanted to retain the old cottage, which had heritage value but needed a lot of attention, and add a 2 story extension at the back.
Our aim was to create the feel of a beach shack, given the block is about 500m from the ocean. Philip took on the challenge, but his first design ideas were quite far from what we had hoped for. Taking our comments on board, he then produced a different design concept and this ended up being what was developed through to the amazing house we have just moved in to.
Philip and our project architect, Claire Holmes, did what can only be described as a fantastic job in terms of overall design, attention to detail, and being open to discussion on particular points. They oversaw the entire project, appointing a local building firm, Texo, to carry out the works, making decisions on fittings, materials and the like. The project for the most part ran remarkably smoothly, with few of the normal stories of lengthy delays or problems. There was a slight delay at the end of the project due to slowness of cabinet installation, but everyone worked really hard to minimize the impact of this and we're now established in our new house and enjoying all the design features that we didn't think made sense during the build but are clearly brilliant now we can see how they work. Light, interesting spaces, details - these are what you want an architect to deliver, and Philip and Claire certainly delivered. We'd certainly recommend Philip Stejskal Architecture to anyone embarking on a building project.

20 Apr 2026Interior vs Exterior Painting: What’s the Difference and Why It Matters
Painting your home—inside or out—might seem like a straightforward task, but not all painting is created equal. Interior and exterior painting each require different techniques, tools, and preparation. The type of paint and how you prepare the surface can vary depending on the job.
Whether you’re searching for interior painting near you or planning to refresh your home’s exterior. Understanding the difference is highly important. This knowledge helps you make better choices and get results that last longer.
Paint Formulation – Designed for the Conditions
Interior paint is made for comfort and aesthetics. The formula resists scuffs, allows for easy cleaning, and offers low-odour, low-VOC options that are safe for enclosed spaces.
Exterior paint on the other hand, is engineered to handle everything the weather throws at it—UV rays, rain, humidity, and temperature changes. It needs to expand and contract with the material beneath it without cracking or fading.
Professional exterior house painters know that durability matters. That’s why they use paints with flexible resins that can handle temperature changes and movement. These paints also include additives that resist mould, mildew, and fading.
Preparation and Surface Conditions
Inside, painting often begins with sanding, filling gaps, and priming smooth plasterboard or gyprock. Outside, prep can involve pressure cleaning, scraping old paint, or repairing render and timber exposed to the elements.
Timing is essential. Interior rooms can be paint any time of year. For exterior painting, it’s best to choose dry, mild weather so the paint dries and sets properly.
Application Techniques and Finishes
Interior painters use rollers, brushes, or sprayers for smooth, even finishes on walls, ceilings, trims, and cabinetry. Common finishes include:
Matte or low-sheen for walls
Semi-gloss or gloss for trims and doors
Exterior painters typically use thicker coats and durable finishes like satin or semi-gloss to withstand outdoor exposure. The texture of exterior surfaces—brick, weatherboard, render—also calls for specific tools and methods.
Choosing the Right Household Paint
Household paint is not always suitable for all surfaces or applications. Using interior paint on outdoor surfaces (or vice versa) leads to poor adhesion, peeling, or quick fading. A trusted painter will match the product not only to the surface but also to the local climate. This is particularly important given Perth’s hot, dry summers and cooler winter conditions.
Interior and exterior painting each require a tailored approach to surface prep, paint type, and technique. Understanding the differences helps ensure your finish not only looks great—but also lasts. Whether you’re painting a bedroom or fixing up outdoor walls, choosing the right products and process makes all the difference.

20 Apr 2026When was the last time you really looked around your home? Sure, you probably think about pressure washing your driveway or footpath. But what about the areas you walk past every day without a second thought?
There are plenty of spots around your property that could do with a good pressure wash—and they’re easy to overlook. Mould, dirt, algae, and grime build up over time, and they’re not just ugly. Left alone, they can damage surfaces and even create safety risks.
Let’s take a look at some of the most overlooked areas that could benefit from a professional pressure clean, especially in a place like Perth, where the weather can be tough on outdoor spaces.
Outdoor Walls and House Exteriors
Your home’s walls cop a lot—dust, cobwebs, insects, and wind-blown debris. Over time, they lose that fresh, clean look. Whether you’ve got brick, painted render, or cladding, a professional pressure clean can strip away that grime and brighten things up. It’s a simple way to add curb appeal, especially if you’re thinking about repainting or selling.
Fence Panels and Gates
Fences are often neglected in cleaning, yet they collect just as much dirt and organic growth as walls. Whether you have timber, Colorbond, or brick fencing, a gentle pressure wash can clean the surface effectively. It removes algae streaks, bird droppings, and pollutants—instantly improving the look of your boundary lines.
Pool Surrounds and Outdoor Paving
Pool surrounds and garden paths are slippery traps waiting to happen. Algae and moss love shady, damp spots, and pool splashback can leave white chlorine stains on pavers. A concrete driveway cleaner or pressure cleaning services can sort this out fast—keeping your outdoor areas safe and looking great.
Bin Areas and Side Access Paths
Let’s be real—the side of the house is easy to forget. But that’s where the bins sit, where stuff gets stored, and where mildew and bacteria build up. A regular pressure wash keeps these areas clean, fresh, and far less grimy.
Patio Ceilings and Eaves
Patios are for relaxing, right? But when you look up, you’ll often find spiderwebs, dust, and insect stains clinging to the ceiling. A low-pressure wash is perfect for these delicate areas, making your outdoor spaces feel clean and welcoming again.
Garage Doors and Roller Shutters
Perth’s dry, sandy air means garage doors and roller shutters get dusty fast. A pressure clean not only improves the look from the street but also helps keep mechanisms running smoothly.
There’s more to a pressure clean than just driveways. Fences, walls, pool areas, and those forgotten side paths all deserve some attention too. A proper professional pressure cleaning service makes your whole property look better, feel safer, and last longer.
Looking for expert pressure cleaning services in Perth? Beyond Maintenance Solutions has you covered. Whether it’s a concrete driveway clean, a low-pressure wash for delicate areas, or a full exterior cleaning package, we’ll get your place looking its best—without the hassle.
