Great place to stay, friendly staff and pub food is really good. The new en-suite accomodation next to the pub is clean and has good facilities. Town is worth a walk through with lots of history and great old buildings.

For the rest of us who enjoy buildings with character, friendly country hospitality and enjoy a beer or simple generous meals served in a rustic setting warmed by a log fire; this is the place for you. My wife and I stayed here a few nights in Oct 2021. The lamb, mash & veg I had with mushroom gravy was amazing. The squid, chips & salad was without complaint from the wife (very unusual). We went in for the famous Sunday Roast dinner and was not disappointed. All meals were a generous size and reasonably priced. We enjoyed our conversations with the locals. Some came in from 20 Km’s away to have a meal. Our accommodation was simple but comfortable. It was all that we needed after days spent sight-seeing, walking and exploring the local area. The wildflowers were abundant and a must see. Thankyou Exchange Hotel, for a most enjoyable stay. P.S. They even have Vegetarian options on the menu.

Good service and staff

I stay here every year during winter in the main hotel. The single room is basic but very clean and comfortable. Black out curtains and heater in the room. Bathroom is very clean and there are two showers (towels provided). I love the character of the old hotel however there is also newer accommodation which has your own bathroom.

Great character country pub/hotel.

We have stayed here for the bailing medieval carnival for the last 2 years. The staff are so friendly and treat us like family. It's a cold time of year so the heating could be a little better but nothing that extra blankets cant fix. The food is great and the currys have a real authentic taste to them. If you're planning on coming down for the festival I would say make sure you book early as like most places in the area it books out pretty fast. It's also a 2 minute drive from the open cut mine look out if you're looking to do some diet sewing.

Friendly staff , great feed

Food was really well priced and tasty, and staff was very friendly and accommodating. 6 very hungry and annoying teenagers went home very full and very satisfied :)
