I went to the Shearing Shed for the first time the other day and though I wanted to love it, too many factors made it an awful experience.

I walked in for my appointment, was told they were running late and to come back in twenty minutes. Came back twenty minutes later and was sat in a waiting chair for another 30-40 minutes. My hairdresser was nice, but cut my fringe way too short and blunt - I had to fix it up myself when I left. This really sucked as I was having my hair done professionally for a special occasion, and if I had known it would be messed up, I would have just done it myself right from the beginning.

All this could have been put aside though - businesses can be busy and sometimes hairdressers aren't able to be perfect. But what truly capped off this appointment as terrible and ensured I would never come back were the comments made by my hairdresser Sarah. SHe was nice and we had a good conversation, but after my haircut she asked if I would be interested in coming back in to colour my hair before an occasion in a few days. My hair has faded from previous dye into a natural ombre, and I'm fairly happy with it. I told her that I didn't mind how my colour was currently, and she said that it looked like what she called a 'hombre' - an at-home box dye ombre. This isn't something that made me feel good about how my hair looked, and I went from being happy with it to feeling like it looked poorly done and uneven. She then said that she could book me in to touch it up and to specifically 'make it look less like it was just a straight line (where the colour started) and more gradiated and better looking'.

I left the appointment feeling insecure about my hair and pressured to pay more to fix something I wasn't even aware was a problem. I didn't come in to colour my hair and never mentioned it, and now even days after the appointment I feel like I need to spend $$$ to feel less insecure about something I was completely comfortable with. To the ladies at The Shearing Shed, please work on your customer service and try to stop using digs on people's appearance to gently bully them into spending more in your salon.
